The goals of this exercise are the following:
- Help people understand the refugee problem. The megagame is an opportunity to learn more about the people who are refugees, and the challenges that all parties involved face.
- Help people listen and talk to each other, even when they do not agree. The game gives people opportunities and incentives to talk to each other, not past each other, in the search for solutions. Occupying a different role than you may have in real life is also an opportunity for gaining greater empathy with people who don’t share your experiences and opinions.
- Help people understand the actions they can take in the real world, after the game is finished. The game is a laboratory in which people can learn about options they might not have considered, and then put options to the test.
